Grant is a neighborhood in transition; a victim of capital flight, thousands of industrial jobs have been lost in the last decade, throwing the neighborhood into poverty. Three of the most dangerous public housing projects can be found along Bergen Street, by the North River. Private housing in the area, such as it remains, is seen as trendy, but generally lower rent than in Fort Clinton. Many of the newest condominiums have been constructed in converted industrial sites and offer views of the north end docks or the trolley car yards; currently being decommissioned and stripped for parts for use on the El. Following the hip and trendy population, many of Gotham newest –and hottest- nightspots have sprung up in Grant. At the center of the neighborhood is St. Marks, a gated historical cemetery.

Millennials out for a night of club hopping in the wrong part of town at night.
The throating rumble of a dozen American made motorcycles.
The sickly sweet neon glow of “XXX – GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS” signs.
Alley ways littered with empty or broken beer and liquor bottles, used condoms, cigarette butts and stale urine.
Back to Uptown.
