Fort Clinton is a patchwork community; home to Gotham State University, a thriving arts scene, a large Haitian community and the city’s largest concentration of same-sex families. The five blocks of East 16th Street known as the “Far East” are the focus of campus life and offer the usual college accouterments – book stores, coffee shops, nightclubs, bars, concert venues and dance clubs. Sullivan, Westin and Holit Streets south of Saint Mary's Park is known as the Triangle, an area known for its after hours clubs; the safe retreat from the Narrows to which college students retire after an evening of slumming. Olive Street, between Gates and 14th, is the center of the Gotham arts community; abandoned warehouses and shipping facilities have been converted into loft apartment and gallery or venue space. Roughly six blocks of P Street in the shadow of Wayne Tower has come to be known as La Navidad.
