China Basin

For most Gothamites, the China Basin begins at the Dragon Gate on Scott Boulevard formerly Gate Street south of Andrews Street. The renaming of Gate Street in honor of Congressman William Scott was a huge point of contention for the residents of the Basin, who saw it as a devaluing of their culture and history in the city. The Basin stretches from Moses Street to Kyle Boulevard along the Sandy Hook Channel and is in reality three smaller Asian enclaves: China Town, Koreatown and Little Saigon. Each has it’s own unique eccentricities and flavor, but to most tourists they are all one homogenous neighborhood. The Dragon Market, one of Gotham’s most famous tourist attractions, is an open air market that is on the channel side of Diaz Street and runs from the China Docks to Captain Street.
